Advancing Driver Monitoring With a Brand New idrive

Black Logo Transparent
If you have visited our web site recently, you may have noticed that we look quite different today compared to a month ago. That’s because we put our brand into over drive for a major refresh. But our new look should come as no surprise, and we didn’t do it just for the sake of it.

When idrive was founded over a decade ago, we were a dash camera company and our video telematics and live GPS tracking solutions fitted nicely with the needs of the market at the time.

Skip forward to today, and idrive has come a long way since our first X1 fleet video monitoring dash camera.

Our technology has evolved from a humble dash camera and platform named Global Center into a stable, mature artificial intelligence system supporting enterprise-scale driver safety, fleet monitoring and video telematics solutions for some of the largest transportation businesses across the world.

So, we thought it was about time we also change the way we look and talk to better reflect the idrive of today.

Getting smarter about keeping eyes on the road

One aspect that we wanted to resonate clearly through our new brand is our use of AI, deep learning and machine learning technologies that allow us to produce unsurpassed accuracy on our core features of accident prediction, distracted driving and drowsiness detection.

In addition to the broad functionality that our platform offers, it was critical to communicate the flexibility that we offer both to our clients who love working with a single platform for multiple use cases, but also to our resellers, who want to be able to quickly identify and align their customers biggest pain points with both out-of-box and turnkey idrive solutions.

We also wanted to reflect the idea that what we do at idrive is complex, but that we make it as seamless as possible to get started with our services so that clients can visualize the benefits and fleet cost savings within one month of implementation.

It was only after tracking over a billion miles of real driving data that we could take on a new perspective for what we do at idrive. At the core of our advanced artificial intelligence driver monitoring system is the ability for our embedded AI to operate on the cameras directly to ensure consistent, reliable and accurate performance even when cellular signal is low.

The crystal clear and accurate identification of the most critical driver behaviors is all about the ability of our technology to ‘see everything’. By drawing on the similarities between the human eye and a camera lens, we chose to name our fleet management platform ‘iris’ to represent the colorful benefits our technology brings to prevent the most disastrous and life threatening events that too often occur in the commercial transportation industry.

So much more than a (powerful) camera

The new name of our latest fleet monitoring dash camera represents the additional features and benefits that we offer in addition to the industry standardized video telematics and GPS tracking.

Today we are proud to introduce the idrive next generation AI Cam, which exceeds the combined functionality provided by connecting up to 10 competing devices.

The translates into drowsy and distracted in-cab driving alerts that are proven to reduce accidents by up to 50%. The safe distance warning display also gives instant feedback on unsafe following distances, and manager can now send in-cab alerts that notify drivers to prevent accidents.

The challenge in building the AI Cam was to establish a near real-time connection between the fleet management control center iris and each individual driver in the fleet, even if cellular connectivity is weak or lost. We achieved our goal and are now the only available computer vision driver assistance tech to exceed 90% accuracy overall.

Albeit we are not solely a dash camera company, we gave our latest camera the name AI Cam to reflect what we do best – artificial intelligence.

Visually speaking

Our aim is to stand out from the other dash camera manufacturers and make the connection of the importance between our hardware and software in what is a very crowded market.

Our new differentiated look features the original idrive logo with a brighter red full circle nestled inside of a lens flair effect which represents the constant motion of our industry and technology: our technology exponentially get smarter with each new mile our cameras travel.

Take a look at the new identity for iris. It immediately identifies the essence of our software through a visual cue of the human eye whilst correlating with the idrive brand logo.

As a growing force in transportation technology, we also used a variety of illustrations to communicate some of the more functional aspects of our technology. As a way to make complex concepts easier to understand, we carefully segmented our platform into four components and four solutions that work interchangeably together.

In the months to come, you will continue to see us evolve – whether it is to showcase our latest technologies at a transportation exhibition near you or to meet the changing needs of our customers and their markets.

idrive Evolves AI Dash Camera With Safe Distance Warning

Safe Distance Warning for Fleet Vehicles is the first system in the industry that does not require expensive add-on hardware as is built into the camera.

SANTA BARBARA, California – May 31, 2018

idrive, Inc — A global leader in Intelligent Camera Systems and Computer Vision for the transportation industry just released Safe Distance Warning for its industry leading X2 Camera system.

Two years in the making, Safe Distance Warning (SDW) was created in idrive’s Advanced AI division. Embedded in the existing X-Series fleet camera it now complements idrive’s embedded Facial Recognition. This added feature requires no additional equipment, another first in the industry. The dual HD dash camera system records both events and continuously and is built on a Framework that allows for future expansions.

idrive’s X2 Camera System equipped with SDW based on advanced Artificial Intelligence can detect distance, vehicle proximity, direction and other objects in the road ahead and notify drivers to reduce speed. The idrive camera system is continually monitoring driving patterns to detect when a driver is too close to the vehicle in front or driving erratically.

Safe Distance Warning

idrive Safe Distance Warning System is the first system in the industry that does not require expensive add-on hardware which allows existing customers of idrive Video Telematics to simply add the service online. The calibration is a simple tablet or phone based web app, greatly decreasing set up time to 10 minutes. Using Computer Vision, the camera looks forward to “see” and determine how far an object is and whether drivers are following at a safe distance. Using the built-in “brain” to monitor speed, acceleration, obstacles, and other vehicles, allows the idrive video event recorder to predict and warn drivers of upcoming threats with great accuracy.

“Creating a Safe Distance Warning system entirely within the camera was a challenge,” said Florin Pasol, idrive’s CTO. “But our system was designed originally 4 years ago to incorporate features based on Deep Leaning A.I. and we knew it could be done.”

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration states that it takes “a loaded tractor-trailer traveling at 55 mph in ideal conditions 196 feet to stop”.

idrive used this information as well as data collected from hundreds of millions of videos and miles driven and analyzed to calculate safe following distances. Safe Distance Warning adds an additional level of safety while training drivers to create more room between themselves and the vehicles in front.

When you are dealing with large vehicles, crashes such as rear endings can be fatal due to speed and the weight of the vehicle. Safe Distance Warning is a big step in reducing fleet vehicle accidents.

Dash Camera Benefits for Fleet Vehicles and Companies

The National Transportation Safety Board or NTSB says that semi-trucks and other fleet vehicles should have fleet video monitoring systems installed. This allows companies to protect against fraud and improve driver accident rates and skill level. Dash camera benefits can save companies a lot of money each year. Money that can be spent to benefit vehicle fleet performance, increase profits, increase safety and reward employees.

Accidents – Collisions – Crashes

One of the most visible benefits of vehicle dash cameras are its accident recording capabilities. Capturing a vehicle collations on video insures that there is always a witness around. Many people have used accident footage to prove that they were not at fault. Companies often face an uphill battle to prove that their drivers are innocent. Most likely because many fleet vehicles are much larger than the average car on the road.

There are over 1,300,000 road deaths each year throughout the world. Installing a video event recorder can cut a driver’s collision rate by 50%. Saving businesses money, time, and legal cost. While keeping your vehicles on the road where they belong instead of the repair shop. Cameras such as the AI Dash Camera video event recorder capture video before and after an accident so that fleet managers can review just the important events without wasting hours of time fast forwarding through camera footage.

Driver Monitoring

Peace of mind and driver accountability. Many dash cameras record only one angle but dual-view dash cameras for monitoring drivers record the inside and outside of the vehicle with 2 camera lenses. When drivers know they may be watched they are more likely to be on their best behavior. This translates into drivers staying alert behind the wheel and your vehicles being well taken care. It also greatly reduces driver error and cell phone use. With features like Visual Telematics Fleet managers can see live video clips from their vehicles.

Employee Fraud

Whether it be driver fraud or insurance scams fraud is something that will cost you company money. Crash for cash scams where a motorist slams on their breaks in front of a commercial vehicle causing an accident have been going on for years and have costs companies money and time while endangering other drivers on the road.

When a camera is there it is much more difficult for scammers to take advantage of you. Vehicle monitoring cameras like AI dash camera have settings that can trigger recordings at different times or when active by the G-Force of a vehicle crash.

Insurance Claims

Video can bring clarity to deciphering what really happens in an accident. This can lead to claims being processed much quicker. It can also help to get claims approved.

Insurance Saving

Insurance providers recognize the fraud and risk savings associated with having a video camera installed.  Insurance premium savings differ for each insurance company however many are offering a 10% savings to their clients.

Some Clients have cut their insurances cost be over 50 percent.

Camera Sleep Mode

When the vehicle is off so is the camera? Not always. Many cameras have a sleep setting. When the vehicle is off and parked the camera remains in sleep mode. If a car backs into your vehicle the camera turns on and begins recording. This helps to eliminate mystery damage while using very little battery power.

GPS Tracking

Never lose track of a vehicle. Monitor driver routes with built-in GPS. Track each vehicle and see where they are. Real-Time video and GPS monitoring can help companies be sure their fleet is where it should be. Make sure that drivers do not take company cars off route or on personal errands. Personal miles can add up quick and your company may be held responsible for damages that happen with your vehicle whether it is with your knowledge or without.
